Strong winds with speeds reaching 50-60 km per hour hit East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The difference in air pressure between Indonesia and Australia triggered it.

This was reported by the Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) of the El Tari Kupang Meteorological Station, Agung Sudiono Abadi. According to him, this condition will last for the next two days.

"The current atmospheric condition is influenced by differences in air pressure between Indonesia and Australia, where air masses move from higher pressure areas (Australia) to lower pressure areas (Indonesia)," he said in Kupang, Monday, July 24, as reported by Antara.

"The NTT area, which is geographically close to Australia, experienced strong winds with wind speeds being observed reaching 50-60 km/hour," continued Agung.

He explained that the weather conditions are expected to occur from July 24-26, 2023, with locations including Timor Island, Rote Island, Sabu Island, and Sumba Island.

Meanwhile, areas that have the potential to be hit by strong winds on July 25 are Rote Island, Sabu Island, parts of Timor Island, and parts of Sumba Island.

Therefore, his party appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for strong winds and potential land fires in NTT.

"We also appeal to the people of NTT to continue to monitor the weather developments officially issued by BMKG through social media both Facebook and Instagram, or the public can also contact BMKG Eltari directly through WA 081139404264," he said.

Business Manager of PT ASDP Kupang Branch Andri Matte separately said that his party had temporarily closed shipping on four crossings in NTT due to bad weather in marine waters.

"For safety, we will temporarily cancel all shipping for today's four routes," he said.

The four transient closed crossings are the Kupang-Rote, Kupang-Aimere-Wangapu, Kupang-Sabu, and Sabu-Ende routes.
