School Entry Activities Make Schools Congested, Gibran Asks Parents Not To Wait For School Children

Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming asked parents not to wait for their children while at school because it has the potential to cause traffic jams on the road.

"Lha ngopo students are waiting (why students have to wait). My son is three years behind, ngopo (why) is waiting," he said in Solo, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 21.

Gibran asked parents to go home immediately after taking their children to school.

"Please, ladies and gentlemen, don't wait for the children to go to school. Just leave it to the teacher," he said.

Traffic congestion in Solo City, especially at school hours, is quite evenly distributed following the closure of the Joglo Intersection due to the construction of an elevated rail by the Ministry of Transportation.

As a result, there are several alternative routes that are socialized by the Department of Transportation for residents to avoid closing the main access to Solo-Purwodadi.

To anticipate long traffic jams, he said, currently the Surakarta City Transportation Service is starting to apply traffic management to relieve congestion, one of which is by arranging school hours and working hours.

"Monday we will decide (regarding working hours, ed). The Transportation Agency is supported by CCTV and traffic management cameras can see which points are crowded," he said.

Previously, long traffic jams on a number of roads due to the closure of the Joglo intersection had occurred on the first day of school admission this new school year, on Monday (17/7) to be exact. As a result, many submitted complaints to Gibran via social media.
