NTT Governor Calls Potential Solar Energy In Sumba 10,000 Megawatt

East Nusa Tenggara Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat Sumba Island has been prepared as an area that produces new and renewable energy with enormous solar energy potential reaching 10,000 megawatts.

"The province of NTT is one of the provinces with the highest amount of energy, geothermal energy on the island of Flores and solar energy on Sumba Island," said NTT Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat in Kupang as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, July 15.

According to him, the best solar energy potential in Indonesia is only on two islands and it is in the NTT region, namely Timor Island and Sumba Island.

The NTT government is in discussion with the State Electricity Company (PLN) to take advantage of the potential energy of the sun on the island of Sumba and Timor Island for the needs of the community.

Governor Viktor said he would immediately inform President Joko Widodo that the island of Sumba will be prepared to become an island with a new renewable energy producer for energy needs in the future.

"The island of Sumba will be an extraordinary island because it produces enormous energy," said Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat.

He hopes that the governments of Southwest Sumba, West Sumba, Central Sumba and East Sumba Regencies will continue to encourage school children in the area to enter schools that are oriented towards building new and renewable energy.

Viktor also hopes that the district government on Sumba Island will design a development program to focus on population availability, water needs, availability of energy and food needs.

"For this reason, it must have been prepared from now on regarding water readiness, prepare the population, prepare food to prepare energy because that is the challenge and what is faced in the future," he said.
