JAKARTA - A former kindergarten teacher was sentenced to death in China in the middle of this week, after his act of poisoning the porridge of his own students left one person dead and injured 24 others, state media reports on Friday.

Wang Yun (39 years) did not succeed in filing an appeal against the sentence, which was initially handed down in September 2020 by the intermediate court of Jiaozuo City in Henan Province.

On Thursday, the same court verified Wang's identity, taking him to the execution site and carrying out the death penalty, a court statement said, according to state media.

In March 2019, Wang bought a number of sodium nitrits after being involved in a dispute with his fellow teachers.

The next morning in kindergarten, he added some of the chemical compounds to the children's "burve eight treasures", the court's ruling reads, according to state media.

The "fertile eight treasures" is a rice-based porridge with a sweet taste that is very popular in the Bamboo Curtain country.

As a result of his actions, one of the children died from the failure of several organs caused by poisoning in January 2020. Meanwhile, two dozen others suffered minor injuries, state media reports.

Wang's case is one of several cases of childland death or violence in China in recent years.

Earlier, a 25-year-old man was suspected of assaulting a kindergarten in China's Guangdong Province on Monday, killing six people and injuring one person, sparking concern about violence against children at school.

It is known, China executes thousands of people every year, far more than other countries, according to human rights NGO estimates Amnesty International.

However, the Bamboo Curtain Country authorities did not publish data on execution.
