2 Ships Transporting Fuel Stranded On Padang Beach Hit By Waves During Extreme Weather

Two ships carrying fuel oil (BBM) were stranded on Padang Beach, West Sumatra due to being hit by high waves after the local area experienced extreme weather on Friday (14/7) in the early hours of the morning.

Sales Area Manager of Pertamina Patra Niaga West Sumatra Region, Naratama Aulia Fazri said the incident was caused by a strong rain current from upstream to Muaro Harbor, which is where the SPOV Ship KBT VII & SJ 01 docked to carry out fuel/K loading for needs in the Mentawai Islands.

"Currently, the ship's position is behind the Al-Hakim Mosque, Padang City for evacuation and handling," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 14.

His party ensures that they make measurable efforts in handling the two ships that were dragged by the waves so that services to the community continue.

"The current condition is that the waves are still relatively high. After the waves have calmed down, the KSOP and Transport will make a withdrawal for the SPOB Sumber Jaya 01 ship that was dragged by the waves," he said. According to him, the ship that was stranded was an oil fuel ship for the Mentawai area.

"Pertamina is currently evacuating and looking for a replacement ship. So far, there is no problem with fuel in Mentawai," he said.

He explained that the stock of BBM in Mentawai was still safe.

"We do regular monitoring," he said.

Sementara untuk kapal SPOB Kurnia Budi Terang VII yang terkena batu pihaknya mendapatkan informasi terdapat kebocoran pada badan kapal.

"Alhamdulillah, for this one ship, there is no fuel load, so there is no leak that pollutes the sea," he said.

His party also communicated and coordinated with transport parties and KSOP regarding further handling steps.

PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Sumbagut ensured that the stock of fuel in Mentawai was safe after two units of fuel carriers were hit by high waves so that they were stranded on Padang Beach, said Aulia Fazri.
