KPU Extends Document Repair Period To Be A Legislative Candidate

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has extended the period of improving the registration requirements for legislative candidates (caleg) until July 16, 2023.

The decision to extend the validity period for the candidate candidates is contained in the Office of the Chairperson of the Indonesian KPU Number 700/PL.01.4-SD/05/2023 addressed to the provincial and district/city KPU KPU and the Office of the Chairperson of the Indonesian KPU Number 701/PL.01.4-SD/05/2023 addressed to the leadership of the political party participating in the 2024 General Election dated July 10, 2023, which was directly signed by the Chairman of the Indonesian KPU Hasyim Asy'ari.

"In the event that there are still documents on the requirements for prospective candidates who have the potential to be declared ineligible, political parties participating in the election are given the opportunity to replace or complete the administrative requirements documents for prospective candidates that have been submitted on June 26, July 9, 2023," said Hasyim as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, July 12.

In the letter, Hasyim made Article 62 of KPU Regulation (PKPU) Number 10 of 2023 concerning the Nomination of DPR Members, Provincial DPRD, and Regency/City DPRD.

The article states that if the results of administrative verification of the repair documents will be legislative candidates and the required documents for the replacement candidate turn out to be incorrect or there is still a multiplicity of candidacy, the KPU will immediately state that the candidate does not meet the requirements (TMS).

To overcome the potential for legislative candidates to be declared TMS, the KPU then extended the period of repair of the candidate candidates' documents.

However, Hasyim reminded all political parties participating in the 2024 General Election, they cannot make changes to the candidate candidates in extra time. He reminded the KPU ranks to ensure that political parties do not replace the DPR and DPRD candidates during the additional improvement period.

Sebelumnya pada 23 Juni 202, KPU menyatakan berkas persyaratan 89,7 persen dari total bakal calon anggota DPR atau sebanyak 10,323 orang belum memenuhi syarat. Dengan demikian, hanya 1,063 orang atau 10,29 persen bakal calon DPR yang dinyatakan memenuhi syarat.

The political party then submitted the repair documents or replaced the candidates registered during the repair period on June 26, July 9, 2023. When the repair period ended, Hasyim said that all parties had submitted repair documents.
