Water Pump House Operates, Belawan Area I Claims Bobby Is No Longer Hit By Rob Floods

Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution said the Belawan I Village area, Medan Belawan District has no longer been hit by tidal flooding since the operation of the water pump house built by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR).

"The water pump house in zone A which is being carried out by the Ministry of PUPR has been completed. So we have seen the pump house overcoming the tidal flood and functioning properly," said Bobby in Medan as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 7.

His party together with the relevant regional apparatus leaders, then representatives from the Ministry of PUPR and the Sumatra II River Basin Center have reviewed the operation of the water pump house this week.

Bobby said the water pump house along with the 329 meter long embankment in zone A, which is located in Belawan I Village, had been completed.

"So, the water pump house functions to accommodate high tides from the drainage of residents in the Belawan I Village area when the tide occurs," he explained.

After that, he continued, the water would be pumped and flowed back into the sea. Because the tide cannot be channeled into the sea, because there is already a retaining fort, namely the rob embankment.

"To flow the tide back into the sea, of course, it must be raised upwards through the tidal embankment using a pump. That's why this pump house was built," he said.

The mayor also said that the water pump house in zone A is capable of holding water at around 0.75 cubic meters per second. Next, the Ministry of PUPR will build at two other points, namely zone B and C.

"So there are two more zones that have not been built," he explained.

The Medan City Government really hopes for the support of the community and community leaders, so that the construction of water pump houses and embankments in zones B and C can run smoothly.

The mayor admitted that the work in zones B and C still has a few obstacles in the field, because not all people understand the function of the water pump house.

"There is a slight resistance from the community. But after seeing the water pump house being built to overcome tidal flooding in this area, people who refuse can support it," Bobby hoped.
