JAKARTA - The North Jakarta City Government has lowered heavy excavator equipment to get rid of illegal waste in the Kolong Toll Road for the East Flood Canal RW 02 Marunda, Cilincing, North Jakarta.

The activity involved 120 joint personnel ranging from officers handling infrastructure and public facilities (PPSU) throughout Cilincing District, the Implementing Unit of the Environmental Service, Water Resources, the Cleaning Implementation Unit of the Water Agency of the Department of Environment, Highways as well as the North Jakarta City Parks and Forests.

Head of the North Jakarta Environmental Agency, Edy Mulyanto, said that the activity was aimed at raising awareness of the surrounding community about the importance of protecting the environment so that it was free from waste.

The garbage that pollutes the area is dominated by plastic packaging, and has also mixed with mud and settles below. Plastic waste in the area is then transported into a trash truck to be taken to the final disposal site of Bantar Gebang, Bekasi, West Java.

"The public should have started to realize the importance of protecting the environment so that they no longer litter, which of course can pollute the environment and harm other communities," said Edy, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 13.

He revealed that his party received complaints from the public about illegal waste disposal around Jalan Inspeksi Kanal Timur RW 02 Marunda, Cilincing, North Jakarta.

One of them is a public report that was continued by a member of Commission B of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Anthony Winza Probowo, on Monday (12/6). People who refuse illegal waste disposal sites in the East Flood Canal area say that the place often creates a fairly strong odor.

The illegal landfill is also at risk of causing disease and polluting the environment, damaging aesthetic value, and causing fires.

"We immediately followed up the report today," said Edy.

In addition to carrying out waste raids, officers from the North Jakarta Environment Agency assisted by the North Jakarta Satpol PP and the local police also carried out a Hand Catch Operation (OTT) in accordance with Regional Regulation Number 3 of 2013.

In this hand-catching operation, the joint team managed to arrest three perpetrators of violations who littered from two service companies transporting garbage.

The two waste transportation service companies that have violated the 2013 Regional Regulation were also further processed to provide a deterrent effect and not to repeat the act of littering.

"So that in the future, no one will litter anymore," said Edy.
