COVID-19 In China Rises Again, 164 People Die In A Month

JAKARTA - Positive cases of COVID-19 in China peaked again, during May there were 164 people killed and 2,777 others in severe condition.

China's Centers for Control and Prevention of Infectious Diseases (CCDC) in a statement as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 13, stated that cases of death and severe positive cases occurred among seniors who had congenital diseases with an average age of 79.3 years.

The number of clinical visits, severe cases, and deaths from COVID-19 during May 2023 was higher than April 2023, but lower than when the peak of cases occurred at the end of 2022, the CCDC said.

During the February-April period, sporadic cases occurred. The number of positive cases continues to grow from the end of April, but decreases at the end of May and currently the trend is also decreasing.

This is in accordance with the opinion of an expert on respiratory tract diseases on Prof Zhong Nanshan that at least 65 million people throughout China will be infected with COVID-19 by the end of June.

Of the total 14,732 positive cases of COVID-19, the Omicron variant and XBB subvariants are still dominant in China.
