Makassar UNM Evaluation Of Campus Security In The Aftermath Of Finding Drug Safes

The Makassar State University (UNM) Rectorate immediately conducted an evaluation regarding the overall security of the campus environment following the discovery of a drug safe by a former student at the Faculty of Language and Literature (FBS) for the Parangtambung campus, Jalan Malangkeri Raya, Tamalate, Makassar, South Sulawesi.

"Of course, in the near future we will evaluate everything, including the security, which will be tightened at all UNM campuses," said the Daily Executive (Plh) of the UNM Chancellor Prof. H Ichsan Ali as reported by ANTARA, Monday, June 12.

According to him, the discovery of drugs in the campus environment brought by the former UNM FBS student who did not finish the undergraduate was a form of weakness in supervision and security. In addition, this incident certainly becomes a slap and wisdom to be repaired together and taken seriously so that it does not happen again.

The Vice Chancellor IV of UNM in charge of Planning and Cooperation stated that so far there have been rules issued by the UNM Chancellor Prof. Husain Syam regarding the limitation of activities on campus, it's just that there are still students who enter allegedly secretly on campus at night.

"The task force is until 18.00 WITA, there should be no activity on campus. There is a rector regulation, this rule has been a long time ago. We have SOPs prohibit everyone from entering. But because there is a mosque in the front area of the campus, we tolerate it until the Isha prayer is over, it will be closed. Unless there is a permit and there is a supervisor," said Prof. Ichsan explaining.

In addition to the security evaluation, his party plans to carry out campus cleaning in terms of drug trafficking and abuse by students by conducting urine tests on students and administrators of student institutions to detect anyone exposed to drugs.

"In the future, it will be ( urine test), in a short time. We have spoken with BNN to immediately realize it, especially all administrators of student institutions, where the management is, we are targeting, we will call them one by one," he asserted.

Prof. Ichsan emphasized that these efforts and steps were taken as a serious concern for the Rectorate to break the chain of narcotics abuse in the campus environment, including the presence of individuals who deliberately damaged the good name of the campus by distributing drugs among students.

Regarding the six people who have been named suspects by the police for keeping a drug safe in one of the FBS rooms, he said, it was an individual. The four people were in the 2008 class and the study did not finish, but still entered the campus.

"They are free to go in and out of campus, because maybe there are acquaintances inside, maybe those who bring in. Indeed, we have a few weaknesses. But, thank God with this wisdom, we will improve even better in the future," he said.

Previously, the South Sulawesi Police Chief Inspector General Setyo Boedi Moempoeni and his staff were witnessed by UNM campus officials releasing six people and named suspects for involvement in storing safes in the ground and suspected drug dealers in the campus area.

Four former students, namely SAH (32) the brains as well as drug storage and couriers, MA (33), AG (34) and M (36), two others, namely S (24), are known to be unemployed and RR (37) is a private worker.

"All suspects are not alumni of the Makassar Parangtambung UNM Campus, but have studied at the UNM Parangtambung Campus, Faculty of Language and Literature but have not been completed," said Setyo Budi.
