Vice President Visits King Ali Haji's Grave On The Island Of The Riau Islands Structure

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin took the time to visit Penanggat Island on the sidelines of a working visit in the Riau Islands, Thursday to visit the grave of national hero Raja Ali Haji.

Reported by ANTARA, Thursday, June 8, the Vice President's journey to the grave of the writer, Melayu, the creator of the Gymnasium Gurindam Dua Belawan, was taken using the Riau Islands 01 Ship from the port in Tanjungpinang City to Pulau Penangtang.

Arriving at the tomb, the Vice President then led the way of prayer together and sprinkled flowers on the tomb.

Before returning to Tanjungpinang to return to Jakarta, the Vice President also took the time to tour the tomb area, which is the royal family's funeral complex.

According to the Mayor of Tanjung Pinang, Hj. Rahmah, SIP., M.M., Vice President Ma'ruf Amin is the first vice president to visit this tomb.

Previously, the 4th President of Indonesia Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid had visited there.

For information, inside this tomb complex, there is a building containing the graves of Engku Putri and King Haji Abdullah and his wife who are members of the Riau Kingdom in the past. Meanwhile, the tomb of King Ali Haji himself is outside the side of the main tomb building.

King Ali Haji is a writer and great scholar from Malay who was born in 1808 in Lingga, Pulau Penangga, Riau Islands.

During his lifetime, he produced a lot of works in the arts.

In every of his works, Raja Ali Haji never leaves his trademark, which is rooted in the tradition of Islamic and Malay literature, as well as his seriousness in presenting past history in accordance with the demands of conditions in his time.

His most well-known work is the literary work of the poem Gurindam Dua Belas in 1847 which became an invaluable work, even the most prominent among other works.

The literary work of Gurindam Dua Belas is also immortalized along the walls of the tomb building, so that every visitor who comes can read and record the masterpiece.

Raja Ali Haji is also known as the first author of the basic Malay grammar through the Language Knowledge Book which became the first language dictionary in the archipelago. This standard Malay language was later determined at the Indonesian Youth Congress on October 28, 1928 as the national language.

For his contribution during his life, King Ali Haji also received the National Hero Title on November 10, 2004 which was given by the President of the Republic of Indonesia at that time, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
