MATARAM - A man with the initials HY (19) in Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara is suspected of having sex with a teenage victim with the initials SA (14) by running a dating mode.

Head of Sub-Directorate IV for Youth, Children and Women (Renakta) of the NTB Police Criminal Investigation Unit AKBP Ni Made Pujawati said the matter is now in the investigation stage by naming HY as a suspect.

"Against the suspect, investigators apply criminal charges regulated in child protection laws and the TPKS (sexual violence crimes) law," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 17.

Investigators have detained HY at the NTB Police Detention Center.

"Now the case in question is in the process of being examined by the prosecutor. We are waiting for the results of the research," he said.

Pujawati explained that this case was first revealed by reports from the victim's parents. The police also followed up by conducting an investigation.

"From our investigation, it was revealed that the victim, during her relationship with the perpetrator, had been sexually assaulted six times," said Pujawati.

He emphasized that investigators in this case have obtained evidence that confirms indications of unlawful acts, namely by establishing a romantic relationship, the perpetrators can easily carry out evil intentions to have sex with the victim.

"That is, if the victim is a child, by being courted, the perpetrator easily chooses to deceive the victim. So, indeed dating is only the perpetrator's mode," he said.

Disclosure of this case is part of the consistency of the NTB Police and all levels of protection units for women and children (PPA) at the resort level in handling cases of sexual violence against children.

"With this case, we also hope to be a lesson and encourage the role of parents to be more active in terms of child supervision," he said.
