Ridwan Kamil Asks Regents And Mayors In West Java To Campaign For Waste Free

West Java Governor M Ridwan Kamil asked the regents/mayors in the province to campaign for free of waste to their citizens, as part of an effort to reduce waste that was dumped into the final disposal site (TPA). "In the end, I asked for a reduction in waste in the city/district, which utilizes the Sarimukti TPA, must also be strengthened by the regent/mayor in order to campaign for free of garbage. All cannot be disposed of 100 percent to Sarimukti," said Governor Ridwan Kamil at Gedung Sate Kota Bandung, quoted by ANTARA Wednesday, May 10.

Being free of waste is a concept that invites us to use single-use products more wisely to reduce the amount and bad impact of waste. The goal is that waste does not end in the TPA, so that it can protect resources and preserve nature. Governor Ridwan Kamil also asked regional heads in the Greater Bandung area to help overcome the waste problem upstream. He said that structuring in the upstream area is important considering that the waste capacity in the downstream region, namely the Sarimukti TPA, is increasingly limited, most recently his party has activated the Sarimukti Zone 1 so that it can accommodate more waste. "The waste in Greater Bandung was immediately decided for expansion, because Sarimukti has already exceeded capacity, Legok Nangka auction is also still having negotiations at the center, so I decided to immediately expand it," he said.

He said the expansion was carried out starting this week plus there were improvements to heavy equipment so that the waste problem in the city of Bandung would be resolved immediately. "The expansion area already exists, just construction. So, the wide commitment is already there, like reserves. Reserves are now used to add. Because the existing only for two million tons of waste, now it's 15 million tons, so it's already exceeding capacity," he said.
