Bawaslu Supervises Political Safari Ganjar Pranowo In East Java

Chairman of Bawaslu Rahmat Bagja said that his party had overseen the political safari carried out by the Governor of Central Java (Central Java) Ganjar Pranowo in several areas in East Java on Saturday 6 May and Sunday 7 May.

"Bawaslu continues to carry out supervision (of Ganjar's political safari). Monitoring continues whether the person concerned uses state facilities or not," Bagja told reporters in Jakarta, Monday, May 8, which was confiscated by Antara.

After monitoring the prospective presidential candidate promoted by the PDI-P (PDIP) in the 2024 presidential election, he continued, Bawaslu would convey the results of the supervision to the public.

Bagja also said that political safaris cannot be categorized as election violations during these activities are carried out outside the campaign schedule set by the Indonesian KPU.

Even so, he continued, political safaris can be categorized as election violations if they are carried out outside the campaign schedule and there is an invitation to select certain candidates.

"Is there an element of inviting or not? Invite Ganjar not to vote as president? If there is, it is a violation," he said.

Based on the schedule set by the General Elections Commission (KPU), the registration of prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates is scheduled to start from October 19 to November 25, 2023.

As regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (UU Pemilu), pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the election who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total number of seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of valid votes nationally in the previous election for members of the DPR.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament so that pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR RI. In addition, candidate pairs can also be promoted by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
