CIANJUR - The Department of Youth and Sports Education (Disparpora) of Cianjur Regency, West Java, noted that at least 136 schools damaged by the Cianjur earthquake had received improvements from the Ministry of PUPR, while the rest were still waiting. Head of Disdikparpora Cianjur Akib Ibrahim said thousands of students from 70 affected schools had not received assistance, until now they are still undergoing the teaching and learning process in tents or online. "About 8,000 students consisting of elementary and junior high school students in Pacet, Cugenang, Cianjur and Warungkondang sub-districts, are still undergoing the teaching and learning process in the tent because they are still waiting for the repair process carried out by the Ministry of PUPR," he said in Cianjur, Antara, Monday, May 8. For 136 schools that have received assistance in stages I and II, are elementary and junior high schools in the same four sub-districts, most of which were heavily damaged and some of them were razed to the ground after being rocked by an earthquake of 5.6 magnitudes. The rebuilding of schools damaged by the earthquake, he said, was carried out in stages so that dozens of moderately and lightly damaged schools were still waiting for their turn. "Some schools that have been damaged and have not been repaired can still be used for learning activities because minor damage is considered not dangerous for learning activities," he said.
