Mahfud MD Has Deposited A Series Of Names Of TIP Perpetrators To The Criminal Investigation Unit Of The Police

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said he had submitted the names of the alleged perpetrators of the crime of trafficking in persons (TPPO) to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police for immediate arrest.

"We have given the names and targets to Bareskrim Polri to be executed immediately, the perpetrators were arrested," said Mahfud at the Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University (UIN) Campus, Yogyakarta, Thursday, May 4, confiscated by Antara.

Mahfud admitted that he had designed shock therapy or "shock therapy" against the TIP syndicate by arresting the alleged perpetrator or distributor in an area that he did not name.

"Maybe today or tomorrow, or next week we will do that," he said.

After the police complete the arrest, Mahfud continued, his party will go to the regions by targeting a number of agencies suspected of having contributed to the crime.

"The perpetrators were arrested first, then after that we will go to the regions. In the government, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, that's what matters for passports. Then all kinds of permits in the police, tourism, and so on, all have a hand," he said.

Mahfud said that TIP was a very heinous crime because it traded people like slaves.

According to him, the TIP syndicate generally promises victims to work abroad with the lure of a large salary.

"As soon as (the victim) wanted to sign various letters he didn't read and was given a passport to send abroad and then become a slave, he was not paid, some worked on ships until they died, some were thrown into the sea, some had their ships being chased by the authorities and so on," said Mahfud.

Because there were quite a lot of victims, according to Mahfud, the government declared war on TIP.

"After the TPPU (money laundering crime), the war that must also be carried out is also against the crime of TIP," said Mahfud MD.

The case of distributing 20 Indonesian citizens as illegal migrant workers in Myanmar is one of many TIP cases in the country.

"The ones who are now a bit problematic are those in Myanmar, because they are trapped in one conflict situation so it is difficult for us to enter and determine diplomatically one by one, in relations between countries. Well, those in other countries as far as they can be tracked are we pick them up and let us go home," he said.
