PPP Announces Ganjar Candidate 2024, Golkar: KIB Considers Track Record Instead Of Popularity

JAKARTA - The United Indonesia Coalition (KIB) has not yet determined the name of the presidential candidate to be carried in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres), even though it has held a meeting on Thursday (27/4) night.

The general chairmen of Golkar, PAN and PPP who are members of KIB are said to be meeting again to discuss presidential candidates who will run in the upcoming elections.

PPP has announced Ganjar Pranowo as a presidential candidate, while Golkar is still nominating Airlangga Hartarto. Meanwhile, PAN seems to have started to look at Prabowo Subianto.

"So the KIB presidential candidate has not yet been decided, even though Golkar has decided Airlangga as a presidential candidate through a national deliberation and PPP is nominating Ganjar Pranowo as a presidential candidate," said Deputy General Chairperson (Waketum) of the Golkar Party Firman Soebagyo to reporters, Friday, April 28.

Firman stated that KIB would be careful in deciding the name of the presidential candidate to be carried by the coalition. He said that the candidate for the KIB presidential candidate was not only determined by the popularity factor, but also considered track records, capacities, capabilities and integrity.

This, said Firman, is more important than popularity. According to him, a person's popularity can be formed by survey institutions and political consultants.

"Therefore, determining the presidential candidate (KIB) must prioritize track records rather than one person's popularity," he said.

"People must also be taught lessons, must be able to think realistic and rational and not emotional because they only see surveys that are sometimes fake and not necessarily true," added Firman.
