BNPT: 45.45 Percent Of Prisoners Commit Terrorism Crimes For Ideological Reasons

JAKARTA - Head of Sub-Directorate for Community Development of the Directorate of Deradicalization of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Colonel Pas Sujatmiko said, as many as 45.45 percent of terrorism convicts or convicts committed criminal acts of terrorism for ideological reasons.

"Based on the results of research on convicts in Indonesia, the highest percentage of why inmates commit criminal acts of terrorism (radicalization process) is 45.45 percent for ideological reasons," said Sujatmiko as quoted by Antara, Saturday, April 8.

He made this statement when describing four important points about the radicalization process, a form of radicalization, the reasons for radicalization, and indicators of radicalization.

"We often equate these ideologies with divine revelations, even though the divine revelations are great, very high, and the divine revelations are not just about Islam. Do not have different thoughts, then feel right by yourself, and become exclusive," he said.

Furthermore, related to the radicalization process, Sujatmiko said that the radicalization process in Indonesia is still ongoing.

The characteristics of the radicalization process include anti-ideology of the state or Pancasila, anti-NKRI, anti-Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, and anti-UUD 1945.

"The radicalization is in the form of intolerance, carries violence, and denies other people," said Sujatmiko when revealing the form of radicalization.

Regarding the indicators of the radicalization process, Sujatmiko refers to distorted religious teachings and shallow religious knowledge.

The Radicalization that has been happening so far is marked by religion being distorted and manipulated for the benefit of groups and political interests. There is no extraordinary crime, other than distorting and manipulating religion that causes damage," he said.

He emphasized that it is not the wrong religion, but people who distort or manipulate religion.
