Pinangki Denies Witness Testimony: Rahmat Says Joko Tjandra Is A VVIP Citizen, So I'm Curious

JAKARTA - The defendant suspected of gratification in the fatwa arrangement of the Supreme Court, prosecutor Pinangki Sirna Malasari, denied a number of points of testimony from Rahmat. One of them was about the beginning of the meeting with Joko Tjandra.

In the trial, Pinangki said Rahmat always showed off his closeness to Joko Tjandra. From there, Pinangki was curious.

"From the start I knew (Joe Chan) was Joko Tjandra. Mr. Rahmat said I knew Joko Tjandra. Rahmat said Joko Tjandra was a VVIP citizen. From there I asked to meet Joko Tjandra. So I was curious," said Pinangki in the trial at Corruption Court, Central Jakarta, Monday, November 9.

Because of that curiosity, Pinangki continued, he challenged Rahmat to meet Joko Tjandra. Therefore, Rahmat went to Malayasia on November 8, 2019 to prove it to Pinangki.

"I challenge it so the assembly. On November 8, he went to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to meet Joko Tjandra. And he (Rahmat) sent me a photo of 'This is real JC' on November 9," he said.

In addition, Pinangki also denied Rahmat's statement that he had taken his cellphone and directed Rahmat before undergoing questioning at the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision (Jamwas) and the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus).

"I never took the witness's cellphone. I also never directed and taught the witness because he was more senior than me, he is 54 (years old) and I am 39 years old. That never directed and taught the witness. He was even more dominant than me," he said. Pinangki.

Finally, Pinangki also emphasized that he did not know about Anita Kolopaking. Pinangki admitted that he had never asked for 100 million US Dollars (US).

"Earlier also explained about Anita, I never knew about Anita and others. Then I never received and asked for 100 million USD from Joko Tjandra," he said.

Responding to the statement, Rahmat said he would not change his statement. He emphasized that the actual incident was the version presented by him in the trial.

"I stick with my stance," he said.

Including, when the panel of judges touched on Pinangki's statement regarding the trip on November 8 and the photo, Rahmat said it was a business interest.

"Maybe on the 8th I went to Malaysia but on business. (About the photo) I don't remember," he said

Previously, Pinangki was said to have directed Rahmat's answer when questioned by the Deputy Attorney General for Supervision (Jamwas) at the Attorney General's Office (AGO).

The examination was related to Pinangki's departure abroad without the knowledge of his superiors.

"Checked by Jamwas, Pinangki asked me to tell Malaysia about business," said Rahmat.

In Pinangki's briefing, Rahmat was asked to explain the business in question regarding Steam Power Plants (PLTU). In fact, he did not understand anything about it.

"To Malaysia to discuss PLTU with a businessman under the name Joe Chan," he said.

Rahmat said he followed Pinangki's directions when he was examined. The reason was, they were convinced that everything was taken care of by Pinangki.

"Ibu Pinangki said that because of this Rahmat has been conditioned," he said.

But finally Rahmat told the truth. This statement was made during an examination at the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the AGO.

"After I thought, as a Muslim, I should not lie, so I give real testimony," he said.
