MUI: The Musala Vandalism In Tangerang Is Uncivilized

JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulema Council, Anwar Abbas, said the vandalism at the Darussalam prayer room, Pasar Kemis, Tangerang, Banten, Tuesday, September 29, was an act of uncivilization.

"The MUI deeply regrets this uncivilized and irresponsible act," said Anwar when contacted from Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, September 30.

He asked law enforcement officials to immediately process the case and take action against the perpetrator in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

According to him, the incident of vandalism in the Darussalam prayer room should not be ignored because it could trigger unrest and uproar. So, law enforcement officials need to be firm in processing the case.

In other words, he continued, if the investigation of the case is not carried out fairly and firmly, it can actually anger the people and society. Of course this should not happen.

Previously reported , the vandalism in the prayer room, Tangerang Regency, went viral on social media. The police also arrested a young man with the initials S (18) who was the perpetrator of this vandalism.

"Based on the results of the TKP, witness examinations and existing evidence, thank God, only a few hours after we investigated we secured 1 perpetrator with the initials S at his house," said Tangerang Police Chief, Kombes Ade Ary Syam Indradi in his statement, Wednesday, September 30.

The perpetrator who was arrested was a local resident at the Villa Tangerang Housing, Pasar Kemis, Tangerang Regency, Banten. The perpetrator's house is about 50 meters from the prayer room.

Currently, the police are still investigating the perpetrators to find out the motives behind the vandalism.

"The motive of the perpetrator, we do not know, because it is still being investigated," he said

Meanwhile, the condition of the prayer room has been cleaned again. So that now it can be used again for worship.

"It can be used. We appeal to the public not to be provoked," he said.
