This Is The Reason Dave Lombardo Chose The Ghosts Of War To Be One Of Slayer's Best Thrash Metal Songs

JAKARTA - In a new interview with Sam Dunn of Banger TV, original drummer Slayer Dave Lombardo was asked why he called the Ghosts Of War one of his three favorite Slayer songs of all time.

"There may be a number of reasons. The structure of the song, of course. This song has a good pulse, good lyrics, melodies, the way the song is put together. Drum break is very heavy. The guitar is very cute. And the flow is good. That's the point," said Lombardo.

"There must be feelings. You have to breathe. If not, just be sterile, just straight lines, not emotional. And that song, in my opinion, captures feelings. And there are some songs that are appropriate and some that are not. And, in my opinion, the song has all the potential or quality, for me, a pure and great metal song, thrash metal song," he continued.

When he initially called the Ghost's Of War one of his favorite Slayer songs in a 2022 interview with Metal Hammer magazine, he explained in detail why.

"Ghosts Of War has details in the middle of the song, where I play it. This particular drum rolls out the riffing Kerry [King] and Jeff [Hanneman] this is a certain pause, and every time I play that part it makes me goosebumps. It makes me feel good," said Lombardo.

"Whatever it's music is beneficial to humans, stimulate your endorphins or whatever, the song cheered me on and gave me goosebumps when I played it."
