JAKARTA - The choice of the late Ryuichi Sakamoto's solo work was collected in the latest compilation from Milan Records, titled Travesmen.

The album was curated by Oscar-winning Mexican director Alejandro Gonzanitlez I Maritime Affairs, with the album title translated into a 'travel' in Spanish.

Sakamoto collaborated with a well-known director with Alva Noto for the soundtrack for the 2015 film directed by The Revenant, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Originally intended as a surprise project to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Japanese composer, this new compilation is the result of planning for almost two years and six months I seen it listening to more than 1000 songs.

When Jean Christophe Chamboredon of Milan Records, and Norika Sora, Ryuichi's manager, invited me to this project, my first instinct was to refuse, "said I Marijuana in a press statement.

Sakamoto's music universe is so broad that it is the responsibility to respect it by choosing only 20 stars from its complex galaxies practically impossible. But after learning that they were planning this as a surprise gift for him, I had no choice but to accept the challenge."

He continued: Even now, I keep finding new elements in Ryuichi's work that I've been listening to for decades. The perception of the music is a cloud that can change, which is always and never the same.

The millennial music tradition breathes through its relentless innovation. Ryuichi Sakamoto's music will be fully alive even as we all leave.

I hope, by listening to these selected songs, you will be able to experience that eternal emotional waterfall.

I hope it asks collaborators Martin Hernandez and Martin Delgado to help with the process, focusing on legendary, poorly-known composer songs.

This album opens with Thiket Knives, the main song from Sakamoto's 1978 debut album. Here's the complete list of the songs:

Pioneer composer Sakamoto died on March 28, at the age of 71. A statement on his official website reads: While undergoing treatment for cancer found in June 2020, Sakamoto continues to make work in his home studio whenever his health allows. He lived with music until the end.
