After Debut In Indonesia, GWM Tank 500 Sold In Australia Next Year

JAKARTA - Great Wall Motors (GWM), a large Chinese automotive company, has again announced its market expansion plan, this time heading to Australia by introducing the Tank 500 model.

The presence of this large SUV is expected to provide a new color in the Kangaroo State market, especially after GWM agrees that this model will be available in a hybrid variant with a seven-seater configuration.

Although GWM Australia has not officially confirmed the presence of this car, it has prepared a budget for the homologation process as a feasibility test to market the 500 Tanks in Australia, Drive reported on Monday, November 13.

The 500 tank has been seen several times being tested on Australian roads, with the vehicle body completely covered by a camouflage robe.

The large dimension of the GWM Tank 500 reaches a length of 5,078 mm, a width of 1,934 mm, a height of 1,905 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,850 mm. This car has a net weight of about 2,630 kg.

In Australia, this model will come with one type of engine that has been approved, namely a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine combined with an electric motor. Equipped with a transmission system of nine automatic accelerations and driving all wheels (4WD), this car is capable of generating up to 345 dk of power.

The GWM Tank 500 is scheduled to arrive in Australia by the end of this year or early next year, given that government certification documents are usually submitted within months of the car being exhibited in the first showroom.

Meanwhile, this vehicle was just introduced in Indonesia in August through the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) exhibition with engine specifications similar to the Australian model.

Official prices for this luxury SUV have not been announced, but are predicted to be available for sale between March or April next year.
