JAKARTA - For a long time, many van campers have been interested, because they are considered quite efficient, practical, and safe to use for vacations or long trips.

Since Volkswagen first introduced Transporter in 1949, this camper-type vehicle has millions of fanatical fans worldwide. Transporters are the best-selling van camper in history with more than 12 million units sold worldwide.

Most recently, Volkswagen introduced a camper concept car called California-based seventh-generation Transporter which was launched in 2022.

Different from the previous version, this new California has two sliding doors for additional flexibility. Although the second door reduces space for the kitchen section, this new model is still capable of providing refrigerators, stoves, folding tables, and storage space in small packets.

In a Top Gear report via their Youtube channel, August 25, California is a Volkswagen camper vehicle that is more as needed by having more space or having a more manageable size.

In addition, having four seats makes it practical for daily use. The back seat can be folded, turning into a small double bed. With the addition of a pop-up roof, there is enough room for four to sleep.

Volkswagen promotes this camper as a vehicle with three living spaces. Apart from the van interior, there is a triangular solar screen on the passenger side and there are tents on the driver's side to provide additional space to protect against the weather.

Machine choice is likely to include 1.5 and 2.0 liters of gasoline along with a 2.0 liter diesel engine, which is still a popular choice in Europe.

However, there is also a 1.4 liter plug-in hybrid option that produces 215 dk of power. This is the first PHEV camper and has the ability to charge the battery from the electric line at the camping site.

Reporting from Motor1, August 26, California's Camper T7 recently debuted at Caravan Salon 2023 in Dusseldorf, Germany. But Volkswagen has yet to show its intention to bring the California camper to the United States, but is expected to be available on the European market by 2024.

It is known that VW left the US van market when they stopped selling Transporters in 2003, but old versions are still popular and used as camper vehicles to date.
