Caterham's First EV Sport Car Introduced Next Month

Previously, Caterham released Seven EVs with the highest speed of 209 km/hour.

JAKARTA - British automaker Caterham released an image teaser from the latest model to be introduced next month under the code "Project V".

Different from other Caterham models such as Seven, Project V is displayed with a more radical design and is different from carrying the concept of a two-seat sports car.

Quoted from Autocar, Wednesday, June 7, it is estimated that the latest sports car from Caterham has become a manufacturer reference in the transition to electrification.

"This is a bold new design. It focuses on drivers, it's light and fun to drive. This is the core of a sports car with an electric powertrain. This is proof. This is Project V," said Caterham.

This car is led by the new head of design, Anthony Jannarelly, who is famous for designing a hypercar, W Motors Lykan Hypersport. "I would say in the end this is a fun moment. My main hope is that people will understand messages coming from Caterham," said Jannarelly.

The latest design from the "Project V" will be exhibited in July on the exact 50th anniversary of Caterham. It is still unclear whether the car will be a production concept or version, but Caterham has plans to build electric vehicles at a new factory located in Dartford, England.

Caterham did not provide a sales date for this model, but the car is likely to reach the production stage according to VT Holdings CEO Kazuho Takahashi's wishes, as a project fund supporter.

The Caterham transition to electrification became more evident when the company previously released the electric-powered Seven model. Caperham Seven is equipped with an electric powertrain that has 240 dk of power and a 249 Nm of trocy developed by the company Swindon Powertrain.

Although this car is getting heavier because the battery has a capacity of 51 kWh, the Caterham Seven EV has a fast charging system with a DC fast-charging of 152 kW by charging the battery to full within 15 minutes.

Seven EV is not a production model but only a prototype, the car will be exhibited at the Goodwood Festival next month.
