Tory Lanez Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison After Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

JAKARTA - Rapper Tory Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Los Angeles court on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 due to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. This trial had previously been postponed several times since last February.

According to Variety, the attorney for the man whose real name is Daystar Peterson is proposing a suspended sentence or three years in prison and rehabilitation. Lawyers said Peterson needed recovery for his alcoholism and childhood trauma.

They also include letters of recommendation from family members, a number of non-profit organization leaders, as well as several friends in the music industry, one of which is rapper Iggy Azalea.

Peterson has been in jail since a jury found him guilty on December 23 in a case that occurred on July 12, 2020.

Megan Thee Stallion reports Tory Lanez shot her in the leg after they left a party at Kylie Jenner's house. After the verdict, Lanez stopped working with attorney George Mgdeysan and recruited Jose Baez.

“He (Tory Lanez) not only shot me, but also made fun of my trauma. This is a statement to survivors that their lives matter and zero tolerance for torture and violence,” Megan Thee said in her statement at court on August 7.

As well as the shooting, Tory Lanez was also convicted of assault with a firearm and use of an unregistered firearm. A jury deliberating over two days hears arguments in a 2022 trial.

Megan Thee Stallion brought in a witness, a surgeon who confirmed that she removed the bullet from the rapper's leg.

While Tory Lanez or Daystar Peterson has repeatedly denied that he did not shoot Megan Thee Stallion. Instead Stallion explained the incident was the culmination of their dispute that night.

On one occasion, Megan Thee Stallion expressed her struggle to win this case.

“When the guilty verdict was handed down on December 23, 2022, it was more than vindication for me, it was a victory for every woman. who have been shamed, fired, and blamed for the violent crimes committed against them,” wrote Megan Thee Stallion.
