Agam Joint Team Continues To Search For Fishermen Drowning In Lake Maninjau

The Agam Regency Government Joint Team, West Sumatra continues to search for a fisherman named Edi Kamardi (43), a resident of Kubu, Nagari Sungai Batang, Tanjung Raya District who drowned while looking for fish in Lake Maninjau since Tuesday (10/12).

Head of Emergency and Logistics Division of Agam BPBD Ichwan Pratama Danda in Lubuk Basung, Sunday said a joint team from BPBD Agam, Kodim 0304 Agam, Agam Police, Agam Firefighters, Basarnas, PMI Agam, sub-district government, nagari government (village), disaster prepared groups and communities looking for victims using boats.

"We are tracing all the waters to find victims who drowned since Tuesday (10/12)," he said.

He said Sunday (15/12) was the sixth day of searching for victims and hoped they could be found. However, the team had difficulty getting down to the waters of the volcanic lake due to strong winds hitting the area.

"The weather factor with strong winds in the area prevented the joint team from finding victims in Lake Maninjau using boats," he said.

He added that the victim drowned while catching fish with a net in Lake Maninjau, where he lives in Jorong Bancah, Nagari Maninjau, Tanjung Raya District.

According to the victim's father's statement on behalf of Sofyan St. Sharia Alam, the victim left the house at around 07.30 WIB to find or catch fish using a boat.

At around 08.30 WIB around the Lake Maninjau area, the wind was quite strong. After that, local residents on behalf of Zona (37) and Nofendra (36) saw a boat floating. Then the witness tried to check the boat and it turned out that the boat was empty or there was no one.

"Looking at the condition, the two residents reported to other residents and looked for victims. We obtained the reports of the drowning residents at 10.50 WIB and we immediately went down to the location," he said.
