Menpora Make Sure Cyrus Margono Becomes An Indonesian Citizen As Soon As Possible
JAKARTA - The Minister of Youth and Sports, Dito Ariotedjo, ensured that the Government would immediately complete the process of transitioning the citizenship of the descendants of goalkeeper, Cyrus Margono.
The goalkeeper who strengthened the Greek club, Panathinaikos B, is currently just waiting for time to take the oath to become an Indonesian citizen (WNI).
"I have also met his father. I have checked this, it is already in the State Secretariat (Secretariat)," said Dito at the Kemenpora Office, Thursday, February 29, 2024.
Cyrus will receive the status of an Indonesian citizen, not through the naturalization process. Therefore, the stages that must be passed do not go through the House of Representatives (DPR).
The previous Indonesian national team player who underwent a similar process was Elkan Baggott. The center-back chose to become an Indonesian citizen at the age of 20 and has been holding an identity card (KTP) since November 2021.
"If he is not naturalized. Only given by citizens because he is still of sufficient age. God willing, it will be approved soon," said Dito.

"This process is not naturalization. So, it is not through the DPR. Yesterday we were coordinating also between the State Secretariat and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Ministry of Law and Human Rights)," he said.
Cyrus Margono is a young goalkeeper born in New York, United States, November 9, 2021. She has Indonesian blood from her father, while her mother is of Iranian descent.
He previously had dual citizenship, namely the United States and Indonesia. However, he established himself to become a fully Indonesian citizen and release his passport to the United States.
You see, Indonesia does not adopt a dual citizenship system, aka it can only be single citizenship. If someone finally chooses Indonesia, he must give up other citizenship.
