The People Must Hold Puan's Promise To Ensure Elections Don't Disturb The Performance Of The DPR

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, emphasized that her institution's commitment to continue to work optimally in the midst of the 2024 election agenda. A promise that will be a breath of fresh air for the community.

"Puan is not trapped in political romance but puts the DPR as a fair supervisor for the executive," said Political Communications Expert, Ari Junaedi, Thursday, November 2.

In the Plenary Meeting for the opening of the DPR's Second Trial Period for the 2023-2024 session, Puan Maharani conveyed the council's commitment to continue working in the midst of warming political dynamics ahead of the 2024 General Election. Puan also ensured that the supervisory and budgeting functions of the DPR would continue to run well.

Ari assessed that Puan's affirmation was a breath of fresh air for the community that the council's work would not be abandoned even though political parties were busy preparing ammunition for the 2024 Legislative and Presidential Elections.

"Puan continues to carry out the leadership function of the DPR in a professional manner," he said.

Ari added that Puan's leadership so far in the DPR has also produced quality legislative products. To note, the DPR has given birth to 64 laws since Puan's leadership in 2019.

As for the legislative products that have been born by the DPR and the Government, the details are Commission I of the DPR as many as 6 laws, Commission II DPR 26 laws, Commission III DPR 6 laws, Commission V DPR 1 laws, Commission VI DPR 5 laws and Commission VII DPR 1 laws. Then Commission IX DPR 1 Law, Commission X DPR 2 laws, and 5 from Commission XI.

Meanwhile, the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR managed to issue 7 laws, 1 law from the DPR's Budget Agency (Banggar) 1 in addition to the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget Law, and the DPR's Special Committee (Pansus) there are 3 laws.

"DPR during Puan Maharani's leadership showed her extraordinary performance," said Ari.

The Director of the Political Studies Institute, Nusakom Pratama, assessed that Puan had succeeded in proving herself capable of separating practical politics and state politics. Even though there has been a coalition formed for the 2024 General Election, according to Ari, Puan is able to continue to unite the factions in the DPR in relation to the council's work.

"The leadership of the DPR, which is not swayed by coalition matters, is the key to the implementation of elections and presidential elections with luber and jurdil," he explained.

Although the party he carries already has a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, Puan is considered not to show her alignment when leading the DPR. Puan's method is said to be used as an example by political elites.

"In fact, Puan doesn't seem to have brought the House of Representatives to join even interventions in legal and political issues, which are heating up their domestic tensions," explained Ari.

"Political years still mean that the DPR must continue to work and focus on completing parliamentary tasks, including maintaining relations with the parliament of friendly countries," he continued.

Furthermore, Ari highlighted Puan's statement regarding the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Puan's attitude that encourages Israeli-Palestinian peace through diplomatic efforts is considered to increasingly show the commitment of the first woman to serve as Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives to the public interest even in the midst of the election agenda.

"The anti-ionism attitude towards the massacre of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip has again been emphasized by Puan as clear evidence of Indonesia's political alignment with the struggle of the Palestinian people," said Ari.
