Bali Provincial Government Targets Fast Suwung TPA Fire To Be Extinguished Through The Latest Engineering
DENPASAR - The Bali Provincial Government is targeting a fire that has burned the Sarbagita Regional Final Disposal Site (TPA Suwung) Denpasar City, since October 12, it can be extinguished immediately using the latest extinguishing technique.
"We are trying as soon as possible because we have just found the technique. At the beginning, efforts have been made, but it is not effective. Now we have found a more effective way," said Bali Provincial Secretary Dewa Made Indra as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 25.
He explained that based on conditions in the field with various efforts that had been made to extinguish the Suwung TPA fire, he had provided many lessons.
These efforts, including the use of water bomber helicopters and water spraying using a fire fleet, have been carried out to extinguish fires at the largest TPA in Bali Province.
"This is different from handling forest or peatland fires whose fires are on the surface, while at the TPA the fire is far inside," he said.
According to Dewa Indra, the helicopter no longer waters while walking but stops at a certain point where there is an estimated fire, then water with a larger volume falls at that point.
Previously, the effort to extinguish the fire did not only involve the ranks of district/city governments in Bali Province and the ranks of the TNI and Polri, but also asked the Ministry of Forestry for assistance.
"We ask for help from Manggala Agung officers. They are already professional people for fire fighting," he said.
The new technique for extinguishing the Suwung TPA is by opening a certain pile of garbage whose smoke is large and then sprayed with fire extinguishers and spraying water.
"In this new way as of yesterday, we estimate that 50 percent of it can be extinguished," he said.

He has also conveyed to the regency/city government throughout Bali to learn from the experience of the Suwung TPA fire, then followed by TPA Mandung, Tabanan Regency and TPA Temesi, Gianyar Regency.
"I learned that in the midst of this very hot air temperature, the potential for TPA fires could be very high," said the former Head of BPBD for Bali Province.
Therefore, he stated the importance of early prevention of fires at the TPA. The anticipation has been carried out by Buleleng Regency by opening piles of garbage to hollow.
"So doused with salt, salt cools. That way, astungkara TPA garbage in Buleleng does not catch fire. We also ask for another one, so there is prevention so that it does not continue," he said.
