Riau BKSDA Monitors Bear Emergence In Kuansing Residents' Gardens

PeKANBARU - Riau Province Natural Resources Conservation Center monitors the appearance of bears in plantations and near settlements which are reported to have worried residents of Pangean District, Kuantan Singingi Regency.

Riau Head (BBKSDA) Genman S Hasibuan when confirmed, Thursday, explained that his party had dispatched a team to the location. The bear was reportedly roaming residents' plantations and had damaged plants.

"There are several nearby staff from the location that we assigned to review and then carry out efforts to rescue these protected animals," Genman said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 19.

Based on the team's monitoring in the field, there are indeed a number of bear tracks. However, the team has not been able to find the whereabouts of the animal.

"The bear has not been found. The team is being investigated in the field," he said.

The location of the bear's appearance is in the plantation area of residents who are not included in the forest area.

Based on the observations of photos and coordinates sent by his team, the location of the bear's appearance is outside the forest area and is a resident's garden. It is suspected that at that location there is sufficient food source for bear animals.

"We will consider installing traps to save bears into their natural habitat areas," said Genman.

Human negative interactions with bears often occur in Kuansing Regency. Antara's record in June last year there were three sun bears entering a rubber plantation, residents in Jambu Island Village, Cerenti District.

The three sun bears are a mother and two cubs. A resident named Hengki reported to BBKSDA Riau that he saw three bears but also found the earth.

Most garden locations do not border forest areas. In addition, bear habitat also does not have to be in the forest but can also be outside the area.
