BMW Celebrates 50 Years of Europe's Largest Factory and Reveals Its Success Story

JAKARTA - The Dingolfing Factory is the largest BMW Group assembly plant in Europe, located in southern Germany. This facility has been instrumental in producing the company's various models since September 27, 1973. This year, the manufacturer celebrates 50 years of the assembly site's existence.

"This celebration is of course an opportunity to look back at the extraordinary success story of this factory but is also an excellent reason to look to the future with optimism," said Dingolfing Factory Director, Christoph Schroder, on the company's official website, Friday, October 13.

Since producing the first model, the BMW 520 Iberian Red, in 1973, the facility has produced more than 12 million vehicles. The level of productivity is so high that every 60 seconds, one car successfully completes the assembly process at Dingolfing.

This factory is not only the birthplace of various famous BMW models such as the 4-Series, 5-Series, 6-Series, 7-Series and 8-Series, but also hosts the production of electrified models such as the iX, i7 and i5. In addition, several models from the 'M' division also undergo the assembly process here.

Apart from mass production, the Dingolfing factory also assembles exclusive vehicles, such as the 8 Series decorated with the work of artist Jeff Koons, 50 units, the BMW 3.0 CSL, 50 units, and the BMW i7 Protection, which is an electric vehicle with the highest level of safety.

The important role of this factory in the production of electric vehicles (EV) is also increasing, with the company targeting EV production to contribute around 40 percent or 300,000 units of the total production of this facility by 2024.

The BMW Group has also established strategic partnerships with well-known software companies such as Microsoft, Intel and NTT, to strengthen digitalization efforts in Dingolfing factory operations. This is considered important to face the increasing complexity of the production process, so that every aspect can be controlled efficiently.

With investment increasing every year, the Dingolfing plant will continue to be a key center for BMW innovation and technology, including the launch of ambitious projects such as the Neue Klasse.
