Honda And Mitsubishi Cooperate In Utilizing EV Battery Use In Japan

JAKARTA - In welcoming electrification, several automotive manufacturers have formed partnerships with fellow companies to provide facilities that support the sustainability of environmentally friendly ecosystems. One of them is what Honda and Mitsubishi do.

Honda and Mitsubishi have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in cooperation in building businesses that use electric vehicle batteries. It aims to maximize the value of each battery from after its use as an EV resource to an energy storage system in Japan

Toshihiro Mibe, Honda's Chief Executive, said the initiation would begin with the use of batteries used in Honda's mini EVs and use them as a sustainable business foundation in the long term.

"Preparing the era of electric vehicles as a whole, Honda will not only sell electric vehicles, but also take a proactive approach in energy management, where electric vehicle batteries will be used as energy sources, and we are also focusing on resource circulation, including the reuse of EV batteries, which contain a variety of scarce resources," Mibe said., reported by Carscoops, Thursday, October 12.

In addition to reusing the BEV battery, the two companies want to implement the most advanced energy management system that allows electric vehicle owners to charge and vacate their vehicles intelligently.

Simply put, the system will automatically control charging time and charging electricity based on supply and electricity demand. If possible, the system uses environmentally friendly energy to charge the vehicle.

"Mitsubishi aims to develop its new business model that balances electrification and decarbonization, to create new cross-industrial services, and innovate new ones to match the times," explained Mitsubishi President Katsuya Nakanishi.
