PUPR Schedules Regional Leadership Meeting Ahead Of The Bali World Water Forum

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has scheduled a meeting of regional leaders to build a joint commitment regarding water management ahead of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali in May 2024.

"Every regional/regional issues related to water management are collected to be consolidated and further become a political process involving parliament. So how can governors, mayors and regents provide input and hope for what will be produced from the 10th World Water Forum in Bali," said Secretary General of the Ministry of PUPR Mohammad Zainal Fatah representing PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, October 11.

Zainal Fatah said the 10th World Water Forum in Bali was carried out with three approaches, namely the thematic process approach, the political process, and the regional approach.

The Ministry of PUPR held a meeting with representatives from the Association of Indonesian Provincial Governments (APPSI), the Association of Indonesian City Governments (Apeksi), and the Association of Indonesian Regency Governments (Apkasi).

After the meeting, he said, a special follow-up meeting was followed up with APPSI, Apeksi, and Apkasi members whose goals were how regional leaders could actively participate in the political process.

For its implementation, he said, it involves the Association of City and Regional Governments/United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) with the aim of increasing joint commitments related to water management at the global level.

This meeting is the biggest event in the field of water management. The Ministry of PUPR held a small meeting in the "working group" as a socialization to regional leaders. Later during the peak event of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, the results of the regional leadership meeting can be taken as an example of good implementation from each region.

Meanwhile, President of the World Water Council (WWC) Loic Fauchon said that the goal of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali, one of which is to convince decision makers, not only presidents and ministers but governors, mayors, and regents to commit to water management.

"We know the technological and financing solutions to deal with the issue of water management problems, but we need to find a political solution for policy making. Talking about water problems to the regional leadership level is the key to creating a shared commitment at the global level to find concrete solutions for water management," said Loic Fauchon.
