The Reason Why Budi Pekerti's Film Was Chosen As JFW's Opening Movie

JAKARTA - The Jakarta Film Week 2023 Festival will be held on October 25-29 in a number of locations such as CGV Grand Indonesia, Kineforum Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), and Gallery Kaya Indonesia. As in previous years, Jakarta Film Week (JFW) will be opened with a film screening.

The film Budi Pekerti by director Wregas Bhanuteja was chosen to open this annual film festival in Jakarta. Novi Hanabi as Program Director of Jakarta Film Week Week 2023 conveyed his reasons for choosing Budi Pekerti Film.

This is because most of the figures behind the scenes at the JFW festival are women. Novi said that JFW itself has its own concerns regarding the position of women in this industry and can be answered by the films at the JFW festival.

"This is actually a bit backwards and big. We first have the spirit of Evolve, it is possible that people who really run JFW every year are women. Many JFWs are carried out by women, there are indeed many female and male percentages in women. We have a lot of anxiety as women in this industry and we have answered some of the films that are at this festival. Not only in opening and closing films," said Novi Hanabi in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, September 26.

This year, the opening and closing films at the JFW festival both contain concerns related to women. This finally made Novi decide that Budi Pekerti's film would be opened at JFW this year.

"The film opening describes the attitude of women with the social world with things that happen in the social world, the impact on her own. For closing films, how women behave towards their growth and the effect of how they adapt to this and their environment," he continued.

"So it just so happens that we meet a film whose spirit and anxiety are the same theme, coincidentally, in line with what we imagined. So we feel like these two films are destined for JFW," he continued.
