OJK Encourages Research's Role In Increasing Community Welfare

JAKARTA - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) stated that research encourages the creation of innovation and sustainable development which will ultimately create prosperity for the community.

Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners Mahendra Siregar said research and development and innovation are not only important to overcome environmental challenges, but also an important tool to achieve economic and social welfare.

"The capacity of research owned by Indonesia is getting better along with the increasing economy. To develop this capability further, cooperation and collaboration with various parties are needed," he said on Monday, September 25.

Mahendra explained, on that basis, OJK held the first International Research Forum 2023 which brought together researchers and academics with regulators and other stakeholders in a scientific forum.

"By lifting the title Save the Planet: The Role of Financial Sector to Support Carbon Reduction and Electric Vehicles Development, we want to provide a basis for concern over the increasing risks faced by humans due to changes in the earth's climate," he said.

Mahendra added that the authorities continue to strengthen their commitment to encourage the financial services sector to contribute to sustainable financial development.

On the same occasion, Deputy Commissioner for the Secretariat of the Board of Commissioners and Logistics, Imansyah, advised that the financial sector must also contribute to mitigating natural climate change.

"We can encourage through sustainable financial policies and project funding that pays attention to the long-term environmental aspect," he stressed.

In this research forum, several researchers and practitioners from within and outside the country also appeared to explain the latest developments and discuss carbon exchanges and the development of the ecosystem and financing of Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicles (KBLBB).
