Foreign Minister Retno On Palestinian Independence: Many Resolutions Are Produced, If The Implementation Is In Accordance With The World Not Like This

JAKARTA - Indonesia urges UN member countries to immediately implement the various resolutions produced by the world body to resolve the Palestinian issue.

The pressure was conveyed by Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi at the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York, USA, on Saturday, September 23. This is also to affirm Indonesia's support for the independence of the Palestinian people.

"The parameters have been agreed upon at the United Nations, so what I ask UN members is how we implement all existing resolutions," said Retno when delivering an online press statement via the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' YouTube, confiscated by Antara.

"There are so many resolutions produced, and if the implementation is in accordance with these resolutions, the world situation will not be like this," he continued.

Retno also emphasized that Indonesia's support for Palestine continues to be voiced in the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) forum.

"I encourage the OIC and its member countries to continue to support Palestine," he said.

Palestinian issues are one of the most highlighted issues at this year's UN General Assembly, following plans to normalize the relationship between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

For months, the two countries have discussed a deal to normalize diplomatic relations, brokered by the US.

Normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia is highly desirable by Israel and the US, because the status of the OIC member state is the leader of the Arab world and the Islamic world.

However, the Kingdom of Saudi stressed that any agreement regarding diplomatic relations with Israel must be accompanied by the creation of a Palestinian State.

Previously, a number of Arab countries had normalized diplomatic relations with Israel, namely the United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Bahrain and Morocco.

The normalization of relations between these Arab countries with Israel is condemned by Palestine because it is considered the aggression and neglect of Palestinian rights, especially regarding Jerusalem and the independence of the Palestinian state according to the June 1967 border.
