Allies Ready To Take Firm Steps If There Are North Korean-Russian Weapons Transactions

JAKARTA - A number of senior South Korean diplomats, the United States, and Japan agreed to take firm action against a possible gun deal between Russia and North Korea, South Korea's Foreign Ministry said.

Reported by ANTARA from Yonhap-OANA, Saturday, September 23, South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Japanese Foreign MinisterYoko Kamikawa in New York on Friday (22/9) to discuss Russian and North Korean arms transactions.

Earlier this month, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met with Russian President Vladimir Putin just as there were growing concerns about a gun deal between the two countries.

Kim wants military technology cooperation with Russia to build spy satellites and other weapons, while Putin is trying to get ammunition from North Korea for use in Ukraine.

The senior diplomats expressed deep concern over the military cooperation between the two countries.

They warned that any gun deals Pyongyang and Moscow would violate UN Security Council resolutions which were also approved by Russia.

The three countries pledged to cooperate with the global community in dealing with any threats to regional security that violate UN DK resolutions.
