The Importance Of Waste Education Since Elementary School, This Is What Dhuafa Wallet Does In Bali
BALI In one of the series of Voluntrip Waste Summit events, Dompet Dhuafa held waste education activities for elementary school students. This activity took place at SD Negeri 5 Kesiman, Denpasar, Bali, on Friday 22 September.
A total of 106 students warmly welcomed the arrival of Dompet Dhuafa's brothers that morning. In addition, the teachers also welcomed this environmental care activity. The series of activities carried out are collecting and considering waste, story telling, health checks, and playing traditional games.
Some of the Dhuafa Wallet organ teams that participated in this action included Dompet Dhuafa Bali, Disaster Management Center (DMC), and Dompet Dhuafa Volunteer (DDV). Interestingly, this activity is filled by Volunteer Specialist Dompet Dhuafa, namely a doctor, dr. Tsaqyla Sabansya and book writer Luftan and Monster, Imelda Naomi.
Ni Luh Putu Deyanti Dewi, one of the 1st grade teachers at SDN 5 Kesiman said, "We are very happy to have been visited by the Dompet Dhuafa team and Kak Naomi at school. The children can directly hear the stories directly from the authors of Luftan and Monster. Then we also play traditional games. The children are also happy to be examined by the doctor's mother. I would like to thank Dompet Dhuafa very much for his visit".
He then explained that SDN 5 Kesiman had collaborated with Bali Wastu Lestari, a waste bank in Denpasar. From there, children are taught both at school and at home about sorting waste. Every month, the school holds waste-weighting activities. Each child is invited to bring the waste that has been collected at home to the school for consideration. They then get money savings from the waste. Later at the end of the year, the savings will be handed over to each student in the form of cash.
"Incidentally, this school is not far from the landfill. People who pass there will definitely smell bad garbage. That is also one of the things that motivates us to teach students to sort waste from an early age. So when thrown there, the TPA can immediately place waste according to its category," he explained.
It is true, in Bali, the issue of waste has become a hot issue in recent years. So that's why Dompet Dhuafa Bali has made this waste issue a fairly important issue. Several times, Dompet Dhuafa Bali has also held beach cleaning activities several times, including those that will be held tomorrow with DDV volunteers.
"It is our job together to keep the environment clean. Hopefully by coming to schools like this, it will be our small steps to teach how important it is to keep waste from being disposed of properly," explained Fadly Hassan as Head of the Bali Dompet Dhuafa Branch.
Apparently, SD Negeri 5 Kesiman has long had books for Luftan and Monster. Most of the students have also read it. The arrival of Ms. Naomi as the writer made students happy because the book was read immediately and told by the writer.
"Luftan is a real person, not a fictitious figure. He is a young person who really cares about the environment. So hopefully other children can also learn from Luftan. They become more aware of the environment, know about the types of garbage, so it will be more beneficial for nature and many people," said Naomi.

During the health check, dr. Tsaqila conveyed a message to always apply clean and healthy living to students. To do so, everyone can start by maintaining personal hygiene. If everyone is aware that they will live a clean life, of course, they will be able to avoid disease due to environmental pollution
"In maintaining environmental cleanliness, it can be started from maintaining personal hygiene, namely clean and healthy living behavior. Environmentally closely related to health, where when clean behavior is reflected in daily life, it can prevent themselves and the surrounding community from disease due to environmental pollution," he said.
After this event, Dompet Dhuafa then went to Martasari Beach and Padang Galak Beach to continue the next series of Voluntrip Waste Summit events.
