Max Verstappen Sets New Record in Formula 1, Surpassing Sebastian Vettel's Achievement
JAKARTA - Red Bull Racing racer, Max Verstappen, won the Italian Formula 1 (F1) Grand Prix (GP) race at the Monza Circuit, Sunday, September 3. This victory brought Verstappen to a new record.
The Dutch racer won 10 consecutive wins in F1 2023. He became the driver with the most consecutive wins for one season.
Verstappen broke Sebastian Vettel's record with Red Bull in 2013. At that time he held nine consecutive wins.
"To be honest, I didn't think (achieving a record 10 wins in a row) was possible," said Verstappen in a short interview after the race, as quoted by Antara.
The victory at Monza also extended the dominance of Red Bull, who recorded their 14th consecutive victory. The Austrian team has surpassed McLaren's record of 11 consecutive wins in 1988.
Red Bull's success at the Monza Circuit, with Sergio Perez finishing in second place. He has a margin from the Dutch racer of 6.064 seconds.
The 1-2 finish was Red Bull's sixth in F1 this season.
Meanwhile, the third podium was occupied by Ferrari racer, Carlos Sainz. He was 11.193 seconds adrift of Verstappen.
"Today's race was very difficult. But I hope the fans enjoy it," said Sainz.
