BYD Makin Melesat, Mencatatkan Kenaikan Penjualan Signifikan Tahun Ini
JAKARTA - There is no doubt that China is a country that is at the forefront of developing advanced electric vehicle technology. In addition, some manufacturers from China have dared to present electric vehicles at affordable prices, making them widely in demand as providers of economic electric vehicles. One of the most striking companies in this regard is BYD, which has recorded impressive achievements.
As Reuters reported on Tuesday, August 29, BYD recorded a positive performance towards the end of August, reporting an increase in profit of 204.7 percent in the first half of 2023 compared to the previous year.
BYD's financial report showed a net profit of 10.95 billion yuan for the first half of this year, marking a significant increase compared to 3.6 billion yuan in the same period the previous year.
This extraordinary achievement was also reflected in the second quarter, where BYD's profit jumped 144 percent to 6.82 billion yuan, after jumping fivefold in the first quarter. However, this brilliant achievement did not stop there.
In July, BYD announced that it had successfully sold a total of 1,255,637 units of passenger electric vehicles and Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) over the first half of this year. The best achievement occurred in the second quarter, where BYD managed to sell 700,244 units of electric vehicles and PHEV.
Of this figure, BYD recorded sales of 352,162 units of electric vehicles and 348,081 units of PHEV. Overall, BYD has sold 612,425 units of electric vehicles this year, with 10 percent of them exported abroad. Although this figure is very impressive, it is still a loss when compared to Tesla's achievement which managed to sell 889,015 units of vehicles in the first half of this year.

It should be noted that BYD's profitability is still under pressure due to the price war that Tesla started earlier this year. This can be seen from BYD's move which has launched eight new models since February at a price of 4-25 percent lower than old models.
The rapid growth of BYD is also reflected in their achievement in assembling the 5 millionth New Energy Vehicle (NEV) in mid-August. This achievement was engraved in just nine months after reaching the milestone of NEV's 3 millionth history. Currently, BYD sells its passenger electric vehicle in 54 countries.
