Jokowi Calls For The Spirit Of KAA 1955 After Meeting With Kenyan President

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo called for strengthening the spirit of the 1955 Asian Africa Conference (KAA) in Bandung, in order to face global uncertainty.

The call was conveyed by President Widodo after meeting with the President of the Republic of Kenya William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, Kenya, Monday, August 21.

"In the current condition of global uncertainty, it is time for us to strengthen the 'Spirit Bandung' between Global South countries," said President Joko Widodo as quoted by ANTARA.

President Joko Widodo emphasized that it is time for the world to listen to the voices and interests of developing countries, including the rights of developing countries to make leaps to develop.

The President said he was honored to be able to visit Kenya directly.

Jokowi, who was welcomed by the President of the Republic of Kenya William Ruto upon arrival at the State House, Nairobi, said Indonesia and Kenya had historical closeness since the 1955 Asian Africa Conference and the 1961 Non-Aligned Movement (GNB).

Joko Widodo said Kenya is an important friend of Indonesia and Indonesia also continues to be committed to strengthening cooperation with Kenya.

He said the visit had resulted in concrete cooperation, including three intergovernmental cooperation, as well as eight inter-BUMN and private cooperation which was expected to be realized soon.

At the end of his statement, President Jokowi invited President Ruto to be willing to make a return visit to Indonesia.
