PONTIANAK – Starting tomorrow, Monday, August 21, the Pontianak City Government, West Kalimantan, is re-enforcing face-to-face learning in class for early childhood/kindergarten, elementary, and junior high school students. Previously, the students were closed due to the disturbance of the haze that enveloped the city.

"This decision was issued because the air and weather conditions in Pontianak City have started to improve. The last few days it has started to rain and air conditions are gradually returning to normal," said Pontianak Mayor Edi Rusdi Kamtono, quoting Antara, Sunday, August 20.

Even though the notification letter has not been officially issued, his party has instructed all school principals starting from the PAUD, Kindergarten, Elementary, and Middle School levels to notify all their students regarding this decision.

"We will submit an official notification letter on Monday (August 21)," he said.

Meanwhile, regarding hotspots in West Kalimantan, the Head of the Information Task Force for the West Kalimantan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Daniel said that the latest data on hotspots in West Kalimantan entered as of August 19 2023 from the results of the VIIRS and MODIS sensors recorded 711 hotspots.

Meanwhile, the area of ​​land burned from January to July 2023 spread across 14 regencies and cities reached 5,768.73 hectares, and the area of ​​land burned in August 2023 is in the field verification stage.

He appealed to residents who are going to cultivate land for cultivation or clearing gardens to prevent land fires.
