Tesla remains the largest player in the battery electric car (BEV) segment with a total registration of 329,608 units (up 44 percent over the previous year) and a market share of 60.3 percent during the period. Non-Tesla BEV registrations (calculated as the difference between total and Tesla) totaled 217,043 units (an increase of about 98 percent over the previous year) with a market share of 39.7 percent.
During June, a little over 99,000 new electric cars were registered, almost on par with May's record of 99,256 units.
When it comes to sales of electric cars, Tesla is far from their closest competitor in terms of brand. The next two brands are Chevrolet (34,140 units) and Ford (27,937 units), followed by Hyundai (20,964 units) and several German brands.
Meanwhile, in terms of best-selling models, Tesla Model Y registrations have almost doubled compared to the previous year, reaching 201,434 units during the first half of this year. The Tesla Model 3 takes a strong second place with a total of 108,604 units, but its growth rate is only around 12 percent (despite having seen a significant price drop compared to the first half of 2022). And the Chevrolet Bolt EV/EUV, with over 34,000 units, is the next most popular choice.
