The Tanah Abang Pasar Kambing Area Swallowed by Fire, Officers are Still Extinguishing It

JAKARTA - The densely populated residential area on Jalan Sabeni Raya, to be precise around the Pasar Kambing, Kebon Melati Village, Tanah Abang District, was scorched by fire on Wednesday morning, August 9. The blaze was reported to have started at 07.05 a.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

"The object that caught fire was the market building. We initially deployed 17 units of fire engines. The operation time for the blackout will start at 07.15 a.m. WIB," said the Head of the Central Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat Sub-Department), Asril Rizal when confirmed by VOI, Wednesday, August 9.

The flames continued to grow and spread to other buildings because the buildings in the densely populated area were dominated by semi-permanent buildings. So the fire spread quickly and continued to grow.

"Currently the fire extinguishing process is still being carried out by officers. There are indications of a fire spreading because it is still a red fire," he said.

Currently, as many as 68 Central Jakarta Gulkarmat firefighters continue to work to extinguish the blaze at the location. There are at least 17 units of cars deployed. Meanwhile, the cause of the fire is unknown.
