Volkswagen Group's Electric Car With MEB Platform Recorded Sales Of Up To One Million Units
Jakarta - News came from Germany's leading automotive manufacturer, Volkswagen Group, which announced sales of up to one million electric cars using the MEB electric propulsion platform in the global market.
In a report quoted from InsideEVs on Wednesday, June 21, Volkswagen Group officially announced this feat through their official account. In addition to the Volkswagen brand, the achievement also includes other brands under the group, such as Audi, Cupra, Skuda, and others.
The sale is backed by Volkswagen factories spread across China, Europe, and the United States, aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric cars around the world.
The MEB platform was first introduced in 2018 as Volkswagen's attempt to expand electric car penetration when a number of other manufacturers had no similar plans.
Currently, the MEB platform is the basis for various electric vehicles produced under the Volkswagen Group umbrella. Since its introduction, the MEB has been used in 14 vehicle models.
Starting from the launch of the first model in 2019, namely VW ID.3, to the latest VW ID.7 model with more advanced technology, the MEB platform has proven its reliability.
However, the sales figures do not include other models outside the Volkswagen Group that use the MEB platform. Ford, for example, is one of the customers who leveraged the MEB in its electric SUV, Explorer, for the European market.
Other manufacturers like Fisker are also working with Volkswagen Group on the use of the MEB platform in developing their electric SUVs, although Fisker is also developing his first model with Magna's technology.

Despite achieving extraordinary achievements, Volkswagen Group realizes that the future of the MEB platform is limited. Therefore, the company is currently developing its successor platform, namely MEB+, which will have charging capabilities of up to 175 kW to 200 kW.
According to the company's claims, MEB+ will offer a more impressive travel distance of up to 700 km on a single charge. This figure is much higher than its predecessor, which only reached a distance of 550 km.
