Forestry Service Conservation 110 Natural Orchid Plants In South Kalimantan
BANJAR - The Forestry Service of South Kalimantan Province has conservation of 110 species orchids in the Sultan Adam Grand Forest Park (Tahura), Banjar Regency.
"Because the presence of orchid species is quite rare, we do conservation in Tahura," said Head of Tahura Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) Sultan Adam Dishut South Kalimantan, Ainun Jariah, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, June 21.
He revealed that initially there were only about 58 Meratus orchid species explored from 24 villages around Tahura.
"Now there are more than a hundred orchid species that we conserve in Tawara Sultan Adam," he said.
Ainun said the Orchid Conservation Park was first built in 2021. Tahura Sultan Adam has a function as a natural conservation area, namely animals and plants.
He also said that the South Kalimantan Dishut involved several partners, namely companies in the construction of orchid parks, including the procurement of complete facilities and infrastructure.
Ainun also said that the maintenance of the orchid park involved officers and guards at Tahura Sultan Adam.
He revealed that the existence of orchid conservation is an important part of the Meratus Geopark site which is intensified by the South Kalimantan Government.
Geopark Meratus has the aim of realizing the preservation of geology, biodiversity and cultural diversity in the context of creating prosperity, prosperity, and the sustainability of life for the people of South Kalimantan, as well as international competitiveness.
Ainun stated that Tahura is a strategic location for the preservation of the orchid because it has the role, function and history to introduce South Kalimantan to the national arena to foreign countries.
"In Tahura, we have maintained and cultivated many biodiversity," he also said.

He revealed that Tahura Sultan Adam has an area of 113 thousand hectares which includes Banjar Regency and parts of Tanah Laut Regency.
He hopes that with the existence of Geopark Meratus, the media can inform Tahura Sultan Adam is one of the 'geosite' that produces rare species of orchids in South Kalimantan.
