JAKARTA Universities or campuses do not only focus on academic issues, but must also provide reinforcement to character education. This message was conveyed by the Chief of Presidential Staff Moeldoko when he was a keynote speaker at the National Seminar of Education in the context of the 59th Anniversary of the Jakarta State University (UNJ). The role of higher education is how to strengthen the character of young children. So don't ignore the issue of character education, and just boast about their academics, said Moeldoko, Monday 19 June. Moeldoko added, strengthening the character of the younger generation is a very important long-term investment to realize the ideals of Indonesia Maju 2045. By forming a young generation who has strong character, he said, Indonesia can face various challenges in the future. We are now facing a very complex global phenomenon, full of risk, and experience very rapid changes. For that, let's prepare young people who are strong and able to compete in the global arena,'' he said. The 2013-2015 TNI commander said that the government itself has prepared various strategies to fix human resource problems, especially in the education sector. One of them is through the Smart Indonesia Program (PIP). In 2023, the government allocates a budget of Rp 21.7 trillion rupiah for PIP. This is a form of the government's seriousness in expanding access to education. So that later no one Indonesian will be left behind to achieve its ideals.
