Jokowi Doesn't Want RI's Demographic Bonus Like A Country In Africa, Makes Unemployment Rates Soar
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo highlighted the peak condition of the demographic bonus in Indonesia by 2030. The head of state estimates that 68.3 percent of Indonesia's population is currently in the productive age group.
This was revealed by Jokowi at the launch of Indonesia Gold 2045 regarding the national long-term development plan (RPJPN) 2024-2045.
"The demographic club only occurs once in a country's civilization, this could be an opportunity, but this could be a disaster if we can't manage it," Jokowi said at the Djakarta Theater, Thursday, June 15.
Jokowi wants Indonesia to make the best use of the demographic bonus. He did not want Indonesia's economic condition to worsen like one of the countries in Africa.
In this country, Jokowi said the demographic bonus in 2015 in the country had an impact on increasing the unemployment rate a few years later.
"In a country in Africa in 2015 it also gets a demographic bonus, but in 7 years, what happens unemployment has jumped to 33.6 percent. I don't have to say where the country is. I'm sure you and your brothers know. We don't want that to happen," he explained.

"We must have tactical planning, not planning but planning, his vision as well as tactical vision, have a tactical strategy because we compete with other countries," said Jokowi.
At the same location, Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa said the government has a number of targets that Indonesia will achieve in 2045.
This was conveyed by Suharso at the launch of Indonesia Gold 2045 which explained the 2024-2045 national long-term development plan (RPJPN) which was also attended by President Joko Widodo.
"In 2045, we hope that the Indonesian nation will become a country with per capita income equivalent to developed countries, a country that is estimated to reach 30,300 US dollars per capita or we will reach 21,000 by 2037," said Suharso.
In addition, when entering Indonesia Gold 2025, the government also targets Indonesia to be included in the top 5 countries with the largest economic powers in the world.
Then, Indonesia is also expected to reduce the poverty rate to 0.5 to 0.8 percent. Where, currently the poverty rate in the country is at around 9 percent.
