Koarmada II Strengthened By 2 New Mining Hunting Ships, KSAL Admits The German Navy Is Interested

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Navy has two mineral counter measuring vehicles or mine hunters. The new ship will strengthen Fleet Command (Koarmada) II.

"This ship will later be addressed to Koarmada II, for Fleet II, while we will consider ships already in Fleet II to be deployed to other fleets that do not yet have mine hunting vessels," said KSAL Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali at the Indonesian Navy Headquarters, Jakarta, Wednesday 31 May, confiscated by Antara.

KSAL on the same occasion explained that KRI Fani Island-731 and KRI Fanildo Island-732 adopted the latest technology, not only from its materials that use non-magnetic steel, but also equipped with a degaussian system and electric motor drive that can reduce noise.

"So, this technology is quite contemporary and is a fairly sophisticated mine hunting ship, where the material comes from a non-magnetic steel steel. So, the material is steel but does not have a magnetic field," he said.

KSAL admitted that the sophistication of the two new Indonesian Navy mine hunting vessels also attracted the attention of the German Navy (AL).

"In fact, Germany also wants to order the ship like the ship that was handed over to the Indonesian Navy yesterday," he said.

Earlier on Friday, May 26, KSAL led the delivery ceremony of KRI Fani Island-731 and KRI Fanildo Island-732 at the Abeking & Resmussen Galan, Lamwerder-Bremen, Germany.

The two new Indonesian Navy ships are scheduled to depart from the shipyard in Germany to Surabaya, Indonesia, on June 11, 2023, with an estimated 35-day voyage.

Head of the Indonesian Navy Information Service (Kadispenal) First Admiral I Made Wira Hady on a separate occasion, Tuesday, May 30, said that the Indonesian Navy sent a total of eight personnel to Germany, four of whom were prospective crew members to attend training on mine-seeking vessels. The training is scheduled to take place in Germany for 39 days.

Upon arrival in Indonesia, the two KRI mine hunters along with the ship's commander and crew will be inaugurated in Surabaya as Headquarters of Koarmada II.
